CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA (September 5, 2014) An early learning center in Chula Vista, CA announces the debut of an educational eBook explaining the differences between Montessori schools and traditional schools. The eBook, entitled 12 Ways Montessori Schools are Different from Traditional Classrooms is currently available for free download at MontessoriAmerican.com.

“We have never met a parent that does not have the goal of finding the best possible education for their child,” said Edith Gruener, Principal of Montessori American School. “But, many parents feel overwhelmed by the information when they are researching, or are just not sure what exactly they should be searching for. To help them in their effort, we have provided a number of free resources that aim to educate and inform parents about some of the most common questions and concerns around early childhood education. With this book, we are explaining the core differences between the environment and education provided by a Montessori school, versus a traditional school.”

Montessori American’s latest eBook answers the age old question, “What makes a Montessori school different from a traditional classroom?” The 12-point guide highlights some of the key factors that distinguish a Montessori approach from traditional schooling. Some of the topics covered in the eBook include:

  • Unique learning environments

  • Consideration of varied learning styles

  • Specialized materials used at Montessori schools

  • The role of teachers

  • Social structures in classrooms

In addition, the eBook discusses some of the basic Montessori philosophies and core principals, such as teaching children the value of making mistakes, as well as instilling independence.

This eBook is designed for parents who may be considering either a Montessori or traditional classroom environment, so that they can make an informed decision.”

CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA (June 29, 2013) This year marked the 25th anniversary of The Montessori American School, a premier preschool and kindergarten Montessori school in Chula Vista, CA. When the school opened its doors in 1988, there were 48 students enrolled. Over the past 25 years, the school has enrolled close to 2,000 children in its preschool and kindergarten programs. The school currently serves 96 students between the ages of 2 and 6 years old.

To celebrate its anniversary, the school held a ceremony that was attended by 200 parents, students, teachers, and administrative staff.

“It was a very emotional ceremony,” said Principal Edith Gruener. “Everybody shared the joy of this major milestone.”

Edith Gruener’s two sons, Eduardo and Mauricio, also attended the ceremony and presented speeches to honor their mother in her accomplishments. In his speech, Mauricio proclaimed, “Mother, you are an accomplished entrepreneur and a business leader. Twenty-five years ago you pursued the start of your second Montessori school, the start of a dream. With full determination, creativity, and passion, the Montessori American School opened its doors in San Diego. With discipline and perseverance, you laid the foundation of a reputable, high quality organization.”

Edith Gruener founded Montessori American School in 1988, and has since devoted her professional life to her proclaimed goal of “making it one of the best preschool and kindergarten schools in the South Bay“. Gruener brings 40 years of teaching experience and 37 years as a school owner and director to Montessori American School. She holds two Montessori Diplomas, including a Montessori Teaching Certificate from the Pan American Society and a Nursery and Primary Schools Credential from Saint Nicholas Training Center. She also has a Diploma in Child Development and Psychopathology from the Association Prescolar Montessori.

“This has been a great personal journey for me,” said Principal Gruener during her opening speech. “I want to believe that we have contributed to helping those children become self-confident, independent, well prepared and well rounded individuals, who will be able to face any challenges and will look back with a smile on their face, at their time spent at the Montessori American School.”

Over the past 25 years, the Montessori American School has provided children with a nurturing, educational environment. The school incorporates Montessori philosophies, such as multi-aged grouping based on periods of development. This environment encourages children to develop a sense of self and community, giving them the unique opportunity to learn from and teach each other. The educational structure promotes independence and encourages children to develop a hunger for learning. The classrooms at Montessori American School also adhere to the Montessori philosophy of providing ordered arrangement of sequential learning materials, designed to be developmentally appropriate and aesthetically appealing.

At the close of her speech, Gruener went on to extend a debt of gratitude to her family, as well as staff, parents, and students, saying, “Thank you parents. Thank you teachers. Thank you children, for the most wonderful years of my life.”

CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA (September 25, 2012) Montessori American School proudly announces that its first summer camp program, launched this year, was a great success. For 23 years, this Chula Vista preschool has provided children with the opportunity to receive a Montessori education during the school year. However, parents of Montessori students always had to find alternate child care for children during the summer months. This year, Montessori American made the decision to open its doors for the month of July and invite children to attend the school’s very first summer camp program. The results were an overwhelming success!

“We realize that finding a quality summer camp program can be a huge challenge for parents,”said Edith Gruener, Principal, Montessori American School. “Our priority at Montessori American is to provide an educational and fun environment for children. We decided that the need for this in the summertime is just as great. Obviously, it was the right decision. The parents were thrilled, and we had a wonderful turnout! We received a great deal of positive feedback from both parents and children. The parents enjoyed peace of mind, knowing that their children were in a fun, safe, and educational environment, and the children had a blast!”

Montessori American’s summer camp series took place this summer, from July 2nd – July 31st on the school’s campus, located at 3604 Bonita Rd., Chula Vista, CA 91910. The camp provided a schedule of fun activities for children each day of the week, including things such as:

  • Cooking

  • Arts and crafts

  • Water play

  • Science projects

  • Sport and outdoor activities

  • Games and contests

  • Dancing

  • Spanish lessons

  • Story times

In addition, children were invited to participate in themed days, such as “Pajama Day”, “Wacky Day”, “Crazy Hair Day”, and “Backwards Day”. The camp’s unique activity schedule creatively combined fun and education, providing children the opportunity to continue progressing through the summer by keeping their minds and bodies active.

Because of the great demand and the success of this year’s camp, Montessori American plans to host another summer camp in 2013. CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA (August 30, 2011) In Chula Vista, California, preschool children have the opportunity to receive an enriching experience that goes above and beyond the typical perception of a preschool and Kindergarten classroom. At Montessori American School, new enrichment programs were implemented in 2011 that allowed children to learn about and participate in activities such as yoga, art history, art appreciation, and early learning of Spanish as a second language. The classes have proven to be very successful, and will continue to be offered in the upcoming enrollment period. “We felt that it was important to provide our students with classes that would complement and enrich our Montessori program,” says Edith Gruener, Director, Montessori American School. “These classes provide parents with a wonderful opportunity to broaden their child’s horizons and enrich the Montessori learning experience.” The enrichment classes at Montessori American include the following:

Yoga for Kids – These yoga classes were implemented in an effort to help children learn techniques for self-health, relaxation, and inner fulfillment. Yoga enhances children’s physical flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness, while also improving mental calmness and concentration, and relaxation skills.

Art History for Kindergarteners – Children in Art History will have the opportunity to learn about art, beginning with cave drawings to present day artists, providing an excellent start to art appreciation. Children will learn drawing skills, as well as how to work with various mediums.

Art Class for 4 Year Olds – These classes are taught by a Certified, experienced art teacher, who introduces a variety of art activities with oil pastels, colored chalk, markers, paints, and collages. Children will also learn drawing skills and how to work with origami.

Spanish – Basic Spanish is taught daily inside the Montessori environment, where children are introduced to basic vocabulary and structures. Advanced Spanish classes are also available.

Help with Potty Training for 2 Year Olds – This class allows toddlers the opportunity to experience a Montessori foundation. In addition to assistance with potty training, children will also have the opportunity to be introduced to Spanish, Arts, Crafts, Music, Geography, and Geometry from an early age.
